The Trekking
From Travellers Rest in Kisoro it is about a half hour drive to the Nkuringo in the south of Bwindi. The visitors permits are collected at the ‘Office’. In groups of 8 they go with a guide path in search of the Gorilla families who have become accustomed to the visit. Depending on where the gorillas are located, the trip lasts an average of 7 hours. It is a wonderful unique journey on foot through pristine tropical forest. There are no roads and it means climbing and climbing through the vegetation. The first location for the guides is the one where the gorillas were seen the previous day. Then they follow the trail to the bed the previous night and through the gorilla trail of broken branches and droppings to where they are eating. The hours with the Gorilla’s is worth the trip. Since it is an unique experience to face to face (sometimes less than 3 meters away) with these fascinating animals.
